This is going to be a long one for two reasons, the main reason being that you can should only access the second set of recon positions under very strict circumstances. the other reason being the reasons for knowing those locations. the first is my favorite, the left gate. This gives the best warning because you can SEE the enemy, and if you want to be a dick, drop a strike on them as they come in. I know Theaus likes this route, but it's the easiest to spot before they take down the gates, or, in Counter Attack, buys a few seconds for your team. the other two gates are best watched by a fast medium or heavy with seismic that can put their ass against the gate and "listen" while watching the generator. except in Counter, then just watch from just inside the gate and hope they're not quick shots, with the other gates, I recommend spotting from your left side, they have to sweep their guns around and it should but you a couple heart beats to, you know, LEAVE. everything below here should ONLY be used after the gates are down, and your team isn't going to immediately need your guns. if you use these without the corresponding gate being down you will be run down, and murdered by yourself because your team cannot help you. welcome to recon, sometimes the job's a bit of a bitch. This one is an early entry spot for the right gate. If you're feeling stupid lucky you can do it without ECM, I wouldn't recommend it.

This one's a hasty position, if you are scouting and see a drop ship coming in, bolt for it, most enemy mechs won't look behind them as they move in, best reached out of the center or right gate Attachments:

I call this the "anthill" Ravens are JUST short enough to use it to hide behind, but a locust with ECM would be more comfortable. you'll be able to get a longer view to watch the left side from, but you have to decide quickly, stay and hide, or bolt for cover. unless you can haul ass, don't move, think of the enemy mechs as a pack of T-Rexes. movement will get you killed.

If you're low on scouts, this one will do, C6, climb the hill, and you can watch the left approach, and center, you also have a couple good escape routes, but keep on your toes, you're exposed and easily sniped. If you see movement RUUUUUUUN Or die, you know, either way.
